Dresden (dpa/sn) – Rico Göde remains the head coach of the second division handball team at HC Elbflorenz despite nine games without a win in a row. “We continue to believe that we have a good team and a good coaching team and we want to work our way out of the situation together. There will be no more coaching discussions until the end of the season,” said club president Uwe Saegeling of the German Press Agency after the 25th: 26 home loss to TSV Bayer Dormagen.
With the eighth defeat in the twelfth game, the team slipped to 17th place in the table and has thus arrived at a relegation zone. Born in Dresden, Rico Göde joined the then third division club as a player in 2014, was assistant coach from 2017 and took over as head coach on April 17, 2019 after promotion coach Christian Pöhler was suspended. The Elbe city-dwellers are still in a legal dispute with Pöhler, who has been the head of the Olympic training center in Saxony since November 1st.
The ambitious second division team, who finished ninth last season, had set themselves the goal of being in the top four teams this season. “In the next two to three years we want to get promoted to the 1st Bundesliga,” said Saegeling before the start of the season. With Göde, however, the relegation battle must first be overcome.
