Flöha (dpa/sn) – In the former colored paper factory in Flöha, the first street artists started the creative phase on Saturday. They are redesigning the industrial wasteland there for the upcoming ibug festival. Almost 300 artists and collectives from a total of 41 countries had applied for the ibug 2022, as the organizers announced. Around 70 of them will transform the interior and exterior into a colorful work of art over the next two weeks. “There are no thematic specifications. We just want them to deal with the architecture and history of the wasteland,” said festival spokesman Michale Lippold at the start on Saturday.
For the first time, the artists can express themselves in the same branch as in the previous year in the art forms painting and graffiti, installations, sculptures and textile art, photography and multimedia. “We are curious to see to what extent the existing art will be preserved or further developed,” explained Paula Jörk, who is responsible for supervising the creatives in the festival team.
Those who are curious can see and experience the works as a temporary exhibition on two festival weekends – from August 26th to 28th and from September 2nd to 4th. A festival program is also planned with guided tours and films, talks, an art market and music.
