Freiberg (dpa / sn) – Before their last concert in front of the loyal fans in Freiberg, the band City had an appointment in the town hall on Saturday: “Reception by the mayor and entry in the silver book of the silver city of Freiberg. What an honor !!”, they wrote Berlin musicians on their Instagram page. They also published photos showing that singer Toni Krahl, guitarist Fritz Puppel, keyboardist Manfred Hennig and violinist Georgi “Joro” Gogow seemed to have a lot of fun at this appointment.

Amy Macdonald, Silbermond, Matthias Reim and Johannes Oerding have already signed the silver book. The four City musicians signed this text: “The band City has been a guest on Freiberg’s stages for around 40 years. On their final tour for the 50th anniversary, the cult band even does a lap of honor in the silver city. With two sold-out concerts on the last weekend in October 2022 the four band members … farewell to their loyal Freiberg fan base.”

Mayor Sven Krüger (independent) said according to the announcement: “Hits like “Am Fenster” still reach people today with their longing for “what stays forever”. At the same time, City fascinates me with their courage to adapt to changes over decades and to kindle the fire for rock ‘n’ roll again and again in new places and in new sounds.”

After the death of their drummer Klaus Selmke and the compulsory Corona break, City is back on tour – and at the same time says goodbye to the stage. The four musicians will be on stage together for the last time in Berlin on December 30th. Drummer Klaus Selmke died of cancer in May 2020.
