At least eight students and a caretaker at a primary school in Belgrade were killed on Wednesday (May 3rd) by a teenager who opened fire in the school, Serbian news agency Tanjug reported, citing a source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The suspect, a 14-year-old student, was arrested shortly after by the police, the Serbian Interior Ministry said. The shooting began around 8:40 a.m. at the “Vladislav Ribnikar” school, located in the center of the Serbian capital.
“The police dispatched all available patrols to the scene and arrested a minor (…) suspected of having fired several shots in the direction of students and a school guard with a pistol belonging to his father,” the statement read.
“The shooter first shot a teacher before shooting the students, who had taken refuge on their desks,” said Milan Milosevic, the father of a student who witnessed the scene.
