Summer is coming and with the new season comes an unbeatable opportunity to renew your wardrobe: the summer sales. Traditionally, the times of discounts in shops were restricted from July 1 to the end of August, but since the release of the campaigns carried out by the Government in 2012, each shop establishes its own periods. Thus, many are those who these days wonder when the summer sales begin.

As they recall from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, “the sales periods and their duration will be freely decided by each merchant based on their interest”, so that the commercial calendars approved by each autonomous community are not really relevant.

Although the elimination of restrictions on sales periods has been endorsed by the Constitutional Court in judgments handed down on appeals of unconstitutionality filed by some autonomous communities, the truth is that the measure does not satisfy everyone. In this sense, a few months ago the Union of Professionals and Self-Employed Workers (UPTA) urged the autonomous communities to agree on the implementation of the sales periods that were in force before its disappearance in 2012, since the release it has created greater problems for small businesses in order to compete with large chains.

Thus, we must take into account the strategies of each business when setting their sales. Some brands advance seasonal discounts to mid-June, but only for online purchases (from the website and applications), then extending the offers in physical stores.

The truth is that those images of collective hysteria at the doors of department stores on the first day of sales are becoming less frequent, but it is still important to be attentive at the beginning of the discount campaign, since during the first days it is easier find the best prices and above all a greater variety of models and sizes.

In any case, experts recommend being clear beforehand what to buy in order to check the final price in different establishments and thus be able to get a bargain that is worth it.
