Bordeaux was sportingly relegated at the end 2021-2022 season to Ligue 2. An administrative demotion to National 1 was issued to the club. This decision is subject to appeal.
After a review of Girondin club owned by Gerard Lopez by the National Control and Management Directorate, (DNCG), the Professional Football League decided to make the decision public.
The club has seven days from the date it was notified about the decision to appeal.
Bordeaux has been plagued with financial problems and has not been able reassure the DNCG (financial watchdog of French League). These setbacks add to a devastating sports season that ended in last place in Ligue 1 with an unprecedented relegation from 1991-92.
These developments occur one year after Gerard Lopez was appointed head of the Girondins. The Spanish-Luxembourgish leader landed in the summer of 2021 as a savior at the head of Bordeaux, despite a blurred image, in particular by the end of his Lille period – he had been ousted from LOSC for financial problems.
Chance of the calendar: The League announced Tuesday that the DNCG had “no action taken” against Lille club.
