A total of 150 Spaniards, 120 from Ceuta, find themselves without a hotel in Saudi Arabia after allegedly being swindled by a company to which they had paid to stay to attend the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.

The situation was denounced this Wednesday by the local party Ceuta Ya!, whose deputy in the Ceuta Assembly and candidate for the presidency of the Autonomous City, Mohamed Mustafa, has requested the “protection” of the Government of the Nation.

Mohamed Mustafa has affirmed that these 150 people are in a “situation of helplessness” in Saudi Arabia after these pilgrims have arrived in the country and have found that, despite having paid the corresponding payment, the hotel reservation in the that should be hosted -management by an intermediary company- has not been carried out.

Upon obtaining this information “from some of these desperate pilgrims”, Mohamed Mustafa has contacted the Government delegate in Ceuta, Rafael GarcĂa, to get the Government of Spain “to intervene so that citizens of our country stop be on the street and have a place to sleep after being scammed”.

Mohamed Mustafa considers it “necessary” to begin “now” the relevant procedures “so that the diplomatic services find a solution as soon as possible.”

The City’s presidential candidate recalled that “we are talking about humble men and women who, in many cases, have spent years and years saving to make what they consider the trip of their lives.”

Therefore, the local leader concludes, “the moral obligation to provide immediate coverage to our compatriots is even more urgent.”
