A 25-year-old young man has suffered very serious burns after being electrocuted due to an electric shock he received while climbing a AVE catenary. The events have occurred in Ciudad Real, where the young man has accessed the AVE tracks and has climbed onto the aerial power cables that transmit electrical energy to the locomotives.

Apparently, the young man, who is hospitalized in the Getafe Burn Unit (in Madrid), improperly accessed the AVE tracks and climbed up to the catenary, at which time he received a significant electric shock that caused him to fall to the ground wrapped in on fire.

The young man, who was conscious, was taken from an ICU to the Ciudad Real General University Hospital where he was initially treated for his burns, and was later transferred to the Getafe Burn Unit in Madrid.
