The fifth day of the 2023/2024 Euroleague offers this Thursday, October 26, a new Spanish basketball classic. Barcelona visits the WiZink Center this Thursday to face Real Madrid, in a match that arrives with the two contenders tied on points at the top of the standings.
Barça and Real Madrid have four wins and no defeats in the top continental competition, an equality that will be broken in the white fiefdom and that will leave one of the two as the sole leader. The truth is that both present sufficient arguments to talk about a duel in the face of a dog.
Although Roger Grimau is still shaping the new Barça project, his team continues to grow game by game. He has a streak of seven consecutive victories in all competitions, with Real Madrid being the only rival he has not managed to knock out this season.
For their part, Chus Mateo’s men remain undefeated in all competitions and also count their last matches in the Classic as victories. Real Madrid beat Barça in the semifinal of the Endesa Super Cup (80-90) and in the third league matchday (86-79). They are the only two games, of the 13 played to date, in which Grimau’s team has been defeated.
It is worth remembering that Barcelona beat Madrid in the final of the Endesa League last season, but the whites conquered Europe, so they defend the European throne.
The rivalry of the Spanish giants has also been projected to a continental level. Since 2000 they have faced each other 34 times in the Euroleague, with a balance of 17 victories for each one.
To win the duel for continental leadership, both teams must rely on the heavyweights in the locker room. On the local side, the best versions of Facundo Campazzo, Sergio Llull, Mario Hezonga or Guerschon Yabusele are expected. Barça, for its part, trusts in the know-how of Nico Laprovittola, Willy Hernangómez, Álex Abrines and Jabari Parker. Grimau’s only loss due to injury is that of Michael Caicedo.
Real Madrid and Barcelona face each other this Thursday, October 26, in the fifth day of the Euroleague. The match takes place at the WiZink Center in Madrid starting at 8:45 p.m. The Spanish basketball classic in Europe can be seen live on television through Movistar.
