The Murcian tennis player Carlos Alcaraz had to work hard this Wednesday against an intense Karen Khachanov to get into the semifinal round of the Mutua Madrid Open 2023 after winning 6-4, 7-5.
The number two in the world needed almost two hours to separate the number 12 in the ATP ranking, which made the Spaniard suffer on the center court of the Caja Mágica in Madrid.
“Karen has pushed me to the limit, (the game) has opted for small details,” said Alcaraz, after a match that “gives him a lot of confidence” to continue defending his Madrid crown.
The Spanish tennis player will face Borna Coric in the semifinals, who beat German Daniel Altmaier 6-3 in his last match.
Currently, the Croatian tennis player is ranked 20th in the ATP, but he has never faced Carlos Alcaraz.
The Spaniard, winner of the Barcelona tournament, is, in the absence of Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal, the great favorite to renew his title in the Spanish capital.
On the other hand, this Friday Alcaraz will also celebrate his 20th birthday. He will do so trying to consolidate his number 2 in the ATP ranking.
The match between Carlos Alcaraz and Borna Coric, corresponding to the semifinal round of the Mutua Madrid Open 2023, is located in the first round of the session this Friday, May 5, so it will be played at 1:00 p.m. The meeting takes place on the main track Manolo Santana.
The semifinal match of the Mutua Madrid Open 2023 between Alcaraz and Coric can be seen live on television through Teledeporte, RTVE Play and Movistar.
