Valeriano Martínez, Galician counselor of Finance and Public Administration, has died this noon suddenly while working in his office at the administrative headquarters of Laxunta de Galicia in Santiago de Compostela.
Official Fonts of the Gallego government confirmed the death past 14.20 on Wednesday and had occurred less than an hour earlier.
The deceased was 60 years old and was a counselor of Hacienda since 2015.
These same sources indicated that Valerian Martínez died “after a cardiorespiratory stop.”
Even though resuscitation was attempted, nothing could be done by saving his life.

Valeriano Martínez was born in the town Pontevedresa de Aldán (Cangas) in 1961, he has a degree in Economic and Business Sciences from the University of Santiago de Compostela and Diploma in Hospital Management Management by the School of High Management and Administration.
Since 1985 he was an official of the superior body of general administration of the Economy and Treasury and until his appointment as Conselleiro de Finance in February 2015 he served as Secretary General of the Presidency of the Xunta de Galicia.
Previously, among other responsibilities, he was General Director of Human Resources of the Sergas, General Director of Transport and Auditor of the Council of Accounts of Galicia.
The sudden death of Valeriano Martínez has left all the autonomous government shocked and, in general, to Galician politics.
The Xunta suspended her agenda of the day and the president, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who was on his way to an act in Vigo when the news was known, urgently returned to Santiago.
