CLINTON TWP. – Tyler Auburger, 18, of Hampton, was charged with DWI, as well as a number of drug offenses, after driving away from an accident, township police said.

Auburger, driving a 2006 Dodge Charger, struck the rear of a 2016 Kia Sorento being driven by a 58-year-old Vineland man on Route 31 south at Halstead Street at 11:15 a.m. on Feb. 20, police said.

Auburger continued driving on Route 31 south until he was stopped by a township officer at the intersection with Payne Road. The officer noticed that Auburger appeared to be under the and detected the odor of burnt marijuana.

A search produced eight Xanax pills, marijuana, fireworks and a pipe with residue, police said.

Auburger was arrested and charged with DWI, unlawful possession of Xanax, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of prescription drugs not in original container, being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance and operating a motor vehicle while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, police said.

He was also issued motor-vehicle summonses for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash, failure to report a motor vehicle crash and tailgating, police said.

Auburger was released pending a court appearance.

A 16-year-old female who was a passenger in Auburger’s vehicle was taken into custody and issued a juvenile complaint for possession of drug paraphernalia, police said. She was released to a parent.
