The carousel of celebrities who parade around the Pasapalabra set continues with the aim of helping the contestants and displaying good vibes. On this occasion, presenter Roberto Leal welcomes Maya Pixelskaya, Carles Sans, Soraya Arnelas and José Corbacho. Let’s get to know this latest guest a little better.
José Corbacho was born in Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona) 57 years ago. His job can be summed up as making the audience laugh, although he is a multifaceted artist, since in addition to being a comedian he is an actor, director and screenwriter.
He studied Information Sciences at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, ??although he himself has confessed that he still has the television subject left to graduate, which is still an irony considering his career on the small screen.
Corbacho entered the world of entertainment in 1988 with the La Cubana theater company, where he participated in several plays for 10 years.
However, the comedian achieved fame on television through the production company El Terrat, founded by Andreu Buenafuente and in which Corbacho is a partner and content advisor, with appearances on programs such as Me lo dice Pérez (1999, Telecinco) or Una something else (2002, TV3). But his great springboard was on Antena 3 when he created and directed the comedy and parody program Homo Zapping (2003/2007).
Since then, he has been a member of jurors in several editions of Tú si que vales and Mira qué jump (Telecinco), he has collaborated in Buenas noche and Buenafuente (Antena 3) and has participated as a contestant in Tu cara me sona 7 or in the second edition of MasterChef Celebrity, among many other projects on different national networks.
His career in cinema deserves special mention. He debuted as a director, along with Juan Cruz, with Tapas (2005), a film with which Corbacho won the Goya for Best New Director. Subsequently, the Corbacho – Cruz tandem has also directed feature films such as Cobardes (2008) or Incidencias (2015) or the series Pelotas (2009, La 1). Likewise, he has been a producer of the successful series Paquitas Salas (2016), where he makes a cameo.
As an actor, he has been seen in small roles in the series 7 Vidas or Pelotas and in films such as The Dancing Machine (2006) or Anacleto: Secret Agent (2015). In advertising, he has worked for companies such as Decathlon, Central Lechera Asturiana or Allianz.
Corbacho has never left the stage, touring Spain from theater to theater with monologues such as Corbacho 5G or Ante todo mucho calm and being part of the cast of comedians at the Comedy Club. He has also participated in the musical comedy The Shop of Horrors, directed by Àngel Llàcer and Manu Guix.
On a personal level, in 2020 José Corbacho revealed that he had undergone a kidney transplant: “I owe my life to my sister.” In addition, he married actress Anna Barrachina in 2004, with whom he adopted Adisu, a 13-year-old Ethiopian boy.
