In the summer of last year, Angelique Kerber made it public that she was becoming a mother for the first time. Now her daughter is born, as the professional tennis player announces on social media. And she also reveals the name of the child there.
Three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber has become a mother for the first time. The 35-year-old athlete from Kiel gave birth to her daughter Liana on Saturday, as she announced on Instagram.
“Welcome to our family, Liana,” wrote the former world number one on the social network: “Having you with us is the most beautiful and overwhelming feeling we could ever imagine.”
Kerber announced her pregnancy in August. However, she ruled out the end of her career, the former winner of Wimbledon, the Australian Open and the US Open still has her sights set on the 2024 Olympic Games. In October she told the “Bild” newspaper that she probably wanted to celebrate her comeback towards the end of the year: “More like New York than Wimbledon, but if it’s possible in Wimbledon, then gladly there too.”
“It means everything to me to be a professional athlete, but I’m grateful for the new path I’m taking now,” Kerber had said shortly before. And: “To be honest, I’m nervous and excited at the same time.” She then underlined her anticipation of the baby with a photo post on Instagram in February. She was “patiently waiting” (“patiently waiting”), she wrote to an aesthetic black and white photo.
