The parade for the National Day of July 14 in 2024 will be organized in the presence of the Olympic flame between Vincennes and Place de la Nation, instead of the traditional avenue des Champs-Elysées, revealed, Thursday, July 13, in the evening President Emmanuel Macron.
“Next year, the Olympic flame will illuminate our parade between Vincennes and the Nation”, explained the president during his speech to the armies at the Hôtel de Brienne, recalling that it would take place a few days before the Paris Olympics 2024.
On the Longchamp racecourse
“You will be engaged as part of your domestic missions to help secure these events of global significance,” he reminded the military. “Some of you will also be participating in the competitions” which will begin on July 26.
The parade has not always been organized on the Champs-Elysées. It was first held at the Longchamp racecourse before taking place for the first time on the most famous avenue in the world in 1919, echoing the Great War.
After the Second World War and until 1980, the location of the celebration changed regularly. “It was not until 1980 that the ceremony settled permanently on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées”, specifies the Ministry of the Armed Forces.
