More records have fallen as the temperature rises.
A high of 77 degrees made Friday the warmest February day on record in Allentown, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, N.J.
The previous record of 76 degrees for the date was recorded in 1985. The official reading was taken at Lehigh Valley International Airport.
Philadelphia tied its daily record Friday at 74, as did Reading at 77, the weather service reported. Mount Pocono shattered its high mark of 60 by seven degrees.
“In Pennsylvania, it was a record day,” said weather service meteorologist Valerie Meola.
Why the heat’s been on for 2 years
The Lehigh Valley also broke records last Thursday and Sunday, with highs of 72 and 68, respectively. The mark was tied last Saturday at 67.
Looking ahead, Saturday’s record of 74 degrees — set in 1930 — appears unlikely to fall with a high of 69 predicted, but that could change if cloud cover stays light, Meola said.
Saturday will also bring more springlike weather to this winter month: There is a chance of scattered, strong thunderstorms in the afternoon and early evening.
