Spain is heading towards the final stretch of the astronomical winter, since spring will arrive next Monday at 10:24 p.m. (peninsular time), with a ‘thermal slide’ typical of the spring season because temperatures will rise this Wednesday and this Thursday, the two will drop following days and will chain another two days with promotions.
“We are heading into the second half of the week that will be marked by sudden variations in temperatures depending on the days, a variable weather typical of spring. On Wednesday and Thursday we will have a generally warm environment for the time of year, but between on Friday and Saturday there will be a marked drop in thermometers that will normalize temperatures, to recover again between Sunday and Monday,” summarized Rubén del Campo, spokesman for the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
The Aemet prediction, collected by Servimedia, indicates that the greatest daily variations in thermometers will occur especially this Wednesday and Friday, with ups and downs of about eight degrees in some areas of the interior of the peninsula.
As for the rains, the passage of a front will bring rains to the northwest of the peninsula and the extreme north on Friday, and to a lesser extent on Saturday, and a new front will affect the west of the peninsula on Monday.
The sun will shine this Wednesday in almost all of Spain and temperatures will rise clearly, except in parts of the Mediterranean coast, where they will drop due to the breezes.
Thermometers will reflect up to six or eight degrees more than Tuesday in some places. Badajoz and Granada will reach 25 degrees.
This Thursday will be another anticyclonic day in general, although the cloudiness will increase in the west and it may rain from midday in Galicia. These precipitations could extend to the last hours to nearby areas of Asturias and Castilla y León.
The winds will blow from the south, so temperatures will rise, both at night and during the day. The rise will be more pronounced in the eastern Cantabrian and northern Navarra, where, according to Del Campo, “the winds arrive overheated after crossing the peninsula and descending the mountains to get closer to the coast.”
Thus, capitals such as Bilbao and San Sebastián will exceed 25 to 27 degrees, temperatures that will also occur in the Ebro valley and large areas of the center and south of the peninsula, such as Madrid.
“Therefore, it will be a day with quite high maximum temperatures for the time of year, between 5 and 10 degrees above the normal average, maximum temperatures typical of May or June,” Del Campo stressed.
With the arrival of a front and the turn of the winds to the west, daytime temperatures will drop significantly this Friday in practically the entire country, except in parts of Galicia, Asturias and the Mediterranean.
This decrease will be notable in a large part of the interior of the peninsula (8 to 10 degrees less compared to Thursday), so that the thermometers will reflect values ??more typical for the time of year.
“They will continue to be somewhat warmer in the Mediterranean area, but there will already be a normalization of temperatures after the warm environment on both Wednesday and Thursday,” said Del Campo.
However, the same will not happen in the early morning temperatures due to the clouds and the wind, which prevent the thermometers from dropping too much at that time.
This Friday there will be a front with rain in Galicia, western Castilla y León, and Extremadura. There will be weak and scattered showers in other parts of the eastern half and the central peninsula, but they will not reach the eastern third of the peninsula or the Balearic Islands. The snow level will be high, above about 1,500 meters in the Cantabrian Mountains and more than 1,600 meters in the rest.
This Saturday it will rain in Galicia, the eastern Cantabrian Sea and the Pyrenees. In the rest of the country, cloudy intervals are expected and some typical spring showers of little importance cannot be ruled out in areas of the interior of the peninsula, especially in the eastern interior.
Temperatures will continue to drop a bit more. A Coruña, Cuenca, Jaén and Madrid will remain between 15 and 17 degrees; Barcelona and Bilbao will reach 20, and Murcia could exceed 25.
On Sunday, stable weather will return, with rain limited to points in Galicia and the eastern Cantabrian Sea, while clear skies will prevail in the rest of the country.
Minimum temperatures will drop and there may even be some weak frost in mountain points and on the North Plateau. On the contrary, the daytime temperatures will rise clearly throughout the country, a rise that can be up to five to seven degrees compared to Saturday in the western half of the peninsula.
The thermometers will mark more than 20 degrees in large areas of the northeast, center and south of the peninsula, and up to 25 degrees in Seville and Zaragoza.
Next Monday, the last day of the astronomical winter, the escalation of the thermometers in the eastern third of the peninsula will continue, although they will already begin to drop in the northwest, where a front will be approaching that will leave rain in Galicia, the Cantabrian communities, Castilla and León and northern Extremadura. With some uncertainty in the forecast, these precipitations could extend towards the center of the peninsula.
As of Tuesday, the passage of fronts would mainly affect the north of the peninsula, where it would rain. And temperatures would tend to drop.
