An 88-year-old Jersey City man returned to his home near Journal Square on Tuesday night and found it had been ransacked and burglarized, police said.
The Liberty Avenue resident returned to his house at 8 p.m. after being out for four hours and realized that someone had broken in and stolen $800 in cash, as well as $4,000 in Indian rupees, a police report Safirbet indicates.
The man told police that a gold wedding ring valued at $200 and a gold chain worth approximately $1,500 were also missing, the report states.
Police officers noted that the victim’s bedroom window was open. The officers canvassed the area for potential suspects, but no arrests were made, the report states.
