Waltershausen (dpa/th) – A 20-year-old driver drove his car into oncoming traffic in Waltershausen (Gotha district) and collided with two cars. The driver was seriously injured in the accident on Saturday and was taken to a hospital, police said on Sunday. It was initially unclear why he came across the opposite lane on a straight stretch. He hit the side of the first oncoming car and collided head-on with the one that followed.
The 20-year-old was trapped in his car in the accident and was freed by the fire department. The three occupants of the two cars in oncoming traffic – two men, one woman – were also taken to nearby hospitals. They were slightly injured in the accident. The police estimated the property damage at around 25,000 euros. The road was closed for more than two hours.
