Jena (dpa/th) – Two projects at the Friedrich Schiller University and the Jena University Hospital are being funded by the Innovative University Teaching Foundation with almost 800,000 euros. The development and testing of a teaching-learning laboratory with a focus on history began in the humanities on Friday, as the university announced. From September, the medical project, which is being implemented together with Heilbronn University, will focus on digitally supported learning in teams from different disciplines.

As it was said, teachers must have certain skills in order to strengthen digitization in schools. So far, school labs have primarily been aimed at topics from the natural and engineering sciences, according to the University of Jena on Friday. The “Digital History” teaching and learning laboratory aims to get schoolchildren interested in history and strengthen their digital skills. Students should examine, develop and test new formats in order to promote their digital and practical skills, for example as part of school internships or all-day offers.

The medical project is about improving communication between different medical disciplines and with other disciplines. In addition, students should learn joint treatment strategies for specific clinical pictures and thus be realistically prepared for professional practice. According to the information, students of medicine, medical ethics, nutritional sciences, pharmacy, psychology and communication sciences will learn and work together in the funded model project in oncology.
