Erfurt (dpa/th) – The Thuringian AfD says it has collected around 12,300 signatures for a referendum against a potential corona vaccination requirement. The state chairman Björn Höcke handed over the list to Interior Minister Georg Maier (SPD) on Thursday, as a ministry spokesman said.
The AfD is striving for a constitutional amendment to prevent any direct or indirect vaccination requirement in Thuringia in the future. Party representatives had repeatedly expressed criticism of the corona vaccination in the past. The Thuringian AfD is listed by the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution as an extremist object of observation and is therefore definitely extremist.
There are high hurdles for popular initiatives in Thuringia. In a first step, 5000 signatures are required. The registration authorities then have to check the lists and the President of the State Parliament, Birgit Keller (left), must approve the request. After that, the request must survive further procedural steps before the referendum can take place.
