Erfurt/Nordhausen (dpa/th) – From Thursday to Christmas Eve, there will again be failures and rail replacement services on the railway line between Erfurt and Nordhausen. The reason for this is an “extraordinarily high level of sick leave” among transport service providers, the railway said on Wednesday. The route has already been affected several times in the past few weeks due to a lack of staff.
From December 22nd to 24th there will be replacement traffic for the RE 55 and 56 lines between Sondershausen and Erfurt all day long. “The signal boxes between Ringleben-Gebesee and Sondershausen on the Erfurt-Nordhausen route cannot be continuously manned in the next few days,” said the railway. In addition, from 25.12. until January 1st, buses will run as an alternative on the Ringleben-Gebesee – Erfurt section.
But there is hope for the new year: according to the current status, no restrictions are planned for January. “The trains of the regional express line 55/56 could run continuously between Erfurt and Nordhausen,” it said.
