Erfurt (dpa/th) – Expenditure for child and youth welfare and thus for kindergartens, among other things, rose to almost 1.3 billion euros in Thuringia last year. According to information from the State Statistical Office in Erfurt on Friday, two thirds of the money went to day-care centres. Overall, public spending on child and youth welfare grew by around 47 million euros or 3.8 percent compared to 2020.
Day-care centers received 838.2 million euros from public coffers in 2021. A year earlier it was 816.7 million euros. 24.2 million euros went to youth work institutions, an increase of 2 million euros or almost 9 percent. State aid for education totaled 202.3 million euros after 185.7 million euros in 2021.
The statisticians calculated that, based on the population, the pure payments amounted to 566 euros per Thuringian inhabitant.
