Erfurt (dpa/th) – In the race for the successor to Green Party leader Bernhard Stengele, potential candidates can apply until the election this Saturday. Stengele said that on Monday when asked. He is giving up his party office because he took over the Ministry of the Environment as the successor to Anja Siegesmund, who had resigned. Stengele expressed optimism that suitable applicants would be found for the vacant position as state spokesman. The election is planned as part of a state party conference near Meinigen.
According to a report in the “Thüringer Allgemeine” (Monday), there is a first candidate in Matthias Kaiser, currently district chairman in Gotha. Accordingly, Kaiser is a captain in the Bundeswehr and has been with the Greens since 2018. He is said to have applied for a municipal office for the CDU in 2012.
The board of the Greens wants to provide information on the topics of the delegates’ meeting and the new elections in Erfurt this Tuesday.
