Erfurt (dpa/th) – More than 20,000 people took part in demonstrations in Thuringia against high energy costs, inflation and the war in Ukraine. As a police spokesman said on Tuesday, a total of 20,000 participants were counted in eight registered and 29 unregistered elevators and rallies on Monday in the country. Around 2,700 people gathered in Gera alone. This was the largest of the demonstrations in Thuringia.

Also in Altenburg (2100), Sonneberg (1900), Weimar and Leinefelde (both 1600) and Saalfeld (1500) well over a thousand participants came together according to the state police. Demonstrations also took place in Erfurt, Eisenach and Gotha. In the city center of the state capital, the police counted around 780 participants. The spokesman said that there had been no relevant incidents either in the context of registered meetings or in the context of unregistered meetings.
