Erfurt/Körner (dpa/th) – Because of a carnival celebration in July, the Körnerschen Carnevalsverein (KCV) is threatened with exclusion from the state and federal association of carnival. The executive committee of the Federal and State Association of Thuringian Carnival (LTK) unanimously decided to initiate proceedings against the association in the Unstrut-Hainich district, the association announced on Tuesday after a meeting.
The reason for this is a summer carnival event on the first weekend in July, which the KCV stopped despite discussions in advance and “in the full knowledge that it was a breach of tradition and statutes”. The club now has three weeks to comment on the allegations and to take a position.
“Unfortunately, we again do not have the opportunity to perform under normal conditions in the period from November 11th to Ash Wednesday. But, we have solutions!!!”, the club announced in February after all events had been canceled due to the corona virus. They were canceled for the second time because of the corona pandemic. In July, three days of summer carnival were celebrated in a marquee.
It’s a shame to lose such a dedicated club, said LTK Vice President Daniel Sauer. “We tried everything to persuade the clubs that wanted to celebrate the summer carnival to give in. This worked for everyone – except for the Körnerscher Carnevalverein e.V., where we were unfortunately unsuccessful,” said association president Christoph Matthes.
All other 333 clubs in Thuringia would have followed the customs with alternative summer festivals, themed nights – and above all without a direct connection to carnival, Bütt, medals and fool’s caps. This is important because the statutory purpose of the carnival associations is the maintenance of customs. The customs period is from 11.11. and fixed from New Year’s Day to Ash Wednesday.
