Weimar (dpa/th) – The new President of the Bauhaus University Weimar, Peter Benz, received his contract of employment from Science Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee (SPD). This means that Benz can officially start work on March 1, as a press spokesman for the ministry announced.

Benz himself studied architecture at the Bauhaus University in Weimar and worked as an artistic assistant before emigrating to Hong Kong in 2006. There he worked until his last appointment as an associate professor at the Hong Kong Baptist University. According to the information, one of his main research areas is in the field of “experience design”.

Benz has expertise in the creative field as well as a technical and construction focus. “I am therefore confident that he will succeed in the challenge of integrating the different interests and potentials of the faculties even more and making them visible,” said Science Minister Tiefensee on Tuesday.

Benz was elected the new president of the university at the beginning of November. A ceremonial inauguration at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is planned for the 2023 summer semester.
