Erfurt (dpa/th) – Private households and companies in Thuringia consumed around 10.3 billion kilowatt hours of electricity last year. The power consumption in the state increased slightly by 1.7 percent compared to the first Corona year 2020, as the Thuringian State Office for Statistics announced on Wednesday. At that time, consumption was around 10.1 billion kilowatt hours. In the pre-corona year 2019, consumption was even higher at 10.45 billion kilowatt hours.
Industrial companies, i.e. manufacturing and mining, consumed the most electricity. They accounted for 4.4 billion kilowatt hours last year and thus about 43 percent of all electricity. 3.1 billion kilowatt hours of electricity were supplied to private households. This corresponds to a share of around 30 percent.
The average revenues of electricity suppliers also increased in 2021. According to the office, they earned an average of around 4.4 percent more per kilowatt hour than in 2020. Overall, they earned around 1.98 billion euros last year, and in 2020 it was 1.86 billion euros.
