Erfurt (dpa/th) – In Thuringia, the number of employees in the health professions increased slightly last year. 2,600 women and men were added to those employed in the healthcare industry, as the State Statistical Office announced on Wednesday. This corresponded to an increase of 1.9 percent. A total of around 138,100 people work in health-related sectors in Thuringia. This means that 13.6 percent of all employees worked in this sector.

As the statisticians also reported, the gross value added of the healthcare industry in Thuringia rose by 2.1 percent in 2021 compared to the previous year, after being adjusted for price, after falling by 4.4 percent in the first year of the corona pandemic in 2020. At 6.8 billion euros, the gross value added in the health sector accounted for 11.5 percent of the overall economic value added.
