Investigations are being carried out in all directions, but the state police inspectorate in Gera said on Monday that it was probably a technical defect. Heavy smoke appeared at the facility on Saturday. The fire brigade discovered a fire in the insulation of a false ceiling. According to the police, the amount of property damage cannot yet be precisely quantified.
The home is uninhabitable for the time being, according to the city, the residents were taken to other accommodation. Accordingly, there are regularly 35 places for homeless people in Gera, which are about 60 percent occupied. “For the homeless people who are known to the social welfare office and are looking for help within the city of Gera, there is basically enough accommodation capacity available,” said the city administration.
