Espenfeld/Erfurt (dpa/th) – The dead herd guard dog discovered in Espenfeld at the beginning of February was most likely killed by a wolf. This was announced by the Ministry of the Environment on Monday in Erfurt after corresponding genetic analyses. These were not clear, it said. Based on the assessment of the situation on site and with the result that is now available, it is assumed that the dog had been killed by a wolf.
The dead livestock protection dog was discovered with bite injuries on February 9 in the Ilm district not far from a fenced sheep pasture. Three sheep were missing from his flock in Espenfeld near Arnstadt.
