Apolda (dpa/th) – According to the Erfurt public prosecutor’s office, the investigations into the identification of the three bodies found in the fire drama on Sunday in Apolda are ongoing. It is currently not foreseeable when a result will be available, spokesman Hannes Grünseisen said on Wednesday on request. According to him, three people are missing from an attic apartment in the apartment building destroyed by the fire. The three dead were discovered in the attic on Sunday and Monday. Because the building could not be entered for safety reasons, they were taken out of the ruins over the roof using a fire brigade turntable ladder.
A 53-year-old man who tried to save himself by jumping out of the window died in the serious fire early on Sunday morning. Almost two dozen people were injured, some seriously, and the police had estimated the damage to property at around two million euros. A 35-year-old man is in custody on suspicion of murder and arson.
