Erfurt (dpa/th) – The number of accidents in Thuringia increased in the first half of 2022 compared to the same period last year. From January to June, the police counted a total of 23,354 accidents, 5.2 percent more than in the same period last year, the State Statistics Office said on Thursday in Erfurt. At the same time, 14.7 percent more accidents involving personal injury and 14.4 percent more casualties were registered in the first six months of the year. The number of fatalities remained almost the same at 36.
The statisticians pointed out that the course of the corona pandemic and the measures taken to limit the incidence of infection could have had an impact on the development of traffic volume. This must be taken into account when interpreting the figures.
