Oberhof (dpa/th) – More than 200 emergency services rehearsed the emergency on Saturday during a large-scale exercise in the biathlon stadium in Oberhof. The scenario was about rescuing numerous injured people who had to be treated after a fictitious deflagration and mostly transported to surrounding clinics, as the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district office announced.

The procedures from the safety concept for the double World Championships in biathlon and tobogganing next year were to be tested in Oberhof and the interaction with the authorities and emergency services from the police, fire brigade and rescue service was to be practiced. Those responsible were satisfied after the exercise. The feedback and analyzes would only be evaluated in the next few weeks, it said.

Volunteers, fans, athletes, coaches and journalists mimed to make the role-playing game as realistic as possible. The fire was simulated by smoke cartridges and pyrotechnics. The injured actors were professionally made up with artificial burns or apparent splinter injuries.
