Seitenroda (dpa/th) – The light castle, located high above the Saale valley, will receive an inclined elevator. The ground-breaking ceremony for this was symbolic on Friday in the community of Seitenroda south of Jena. According to the Leuchtenburg Foundation, which bought and extensively renovated the area in 2007 after years of vacancy, the investment of 6.8 million euros will create “Germany’s first barrier-free hilltop castle”.
According to the plans, the elevator, which runs partly underground, is to overcome a height difference of around 60 meters over a distance of 154 meters. The cabin offers space for 30 guests, it said. The excavation of the excavation pit for the valley station is expected to start in October, the foundation announced on Friday. The elevator is scheduled to go into operation at the end of 2024.
