Erfurt (dpa/th) – The Erfurt Zoo, which made the headlines because of several dead animals, has a new leadership. The Erfurt city council recalled the previous dual leadership on Wednesday evening and appointed zoo curator Heike Maisch as the new director, as the city administration confirmed on Thursday. She is to manage the zoo on an interim basis until the post is advertised externally. Former city hall spokeswoman Inga Hettstedt and zoo doctor Tina Risch also belong to the new management team.
The women replace the previous dual leadership Sabine Merz and Katrin Gallion after massive problems at the zoo and a sharp drop in visitors. This year, five wild animals died in the Erfurt Zoo, partly for inexplicable reasons.
