Gotha (dpa/th) – Minister of the Interior Georg Maier (SPD) has sworn in 330 police candidates in Gotha. The men and women took their oath of service in the sunshine in the courtyard of Friedenstein Castle, as a police spokesman said on Saturday afternoon. They committed themselves to the basic democratic order of Thuringia and the Federal Republic of Germany and swore to carry out their official duties conscientiously and impartially. 79 of the young police officers are now in the higher service. The rest go into middle service.

This means that all planned junior positions at the Thuringian police could be filled this year. By 2025, up to 300 police candidates are to be hired. This is how the number of staff in the police force is to be maintained. In the coming years, a relatively large number of civil servants will reach retirement age.
