Erfurt (dpa/th) – The majority of Thuringians send tax returns electronically to the tax office. The proportion of online tax returns via the Elster portal was 73 percent in 2022, the Ministry of Finance announced on Monday in Erfurt. The share compared to the previous year remained relatively constant – only a small increase of 0.3 percentage points.
With a share of almost three quarters of digital tax returns, Thuringia is in the top third in a country comparison, explained Finance Minister Heike Taubert (SPD). In the course of the property tax reform, more Thuringians had registered for the online portal of the financial administration. Around 84 percent of the property tax returns submitted were sent digitally.
The ministry pointed out that since April 2022, a simplified form of digital income tax returns has also been available specifically for senior citizens.
