Erfurt (dpa/th) – In Thuringia, the number of corporate insolvencies has increased slightly this year. On the other hand, fewer consumers had to file for bankruptcy, as the State Statistical Office announced on Monday in Erfurt. From January to September, 167 procedures were applied for due to insolvency or over-indebtedness of companies, 3.1 percent more than in the same period of the previous year. The troubled companies employed more than 1,600 workers.

According to the information, the probable creditor claims for the insolvent companies amounted to around 128 million euros. 36 procedures related to the construction industry, 23 procedures to the processing industry.

In total, there were almost 1,680 insolvency proceedings at the district courts in the Free State in the first nine months. That was 177 applications or 9.5 percent fewer than in the same period last year. The number of consumer bankruptcies in Thuringia fell by 14.7 percent to 1,094 during this period.
