Erfurt (dpa/th) – For the Thuringian bratwurst there is again a larger supply of pork from local slaughterhouses. The number of pigs slaughtered rose in the first half of the year compared to the same period last year by 3,603 to 89,940 animals, as the State Statistical Office announced on Friday.
This means that 8,621 tons of pork were produced, which is 203 tons more. Because the Thuringian slaughterhouses reduced capacity last year, the number of pigs slaughtered in 2021 was reduced by more than a quarter.
A total of 138,611 animals were slaughtered in Thuringia in the first half of the year. This was a slight increase in slaughter compared to the first half of 2021, by 1262 animals. While more pigs were slaughtered, the number of cattle, sheep, goats and horses slaughtered decreased. According to the information, 23,272 tons of meat were produced, slightly less than in the same period last year. The main reason for this is the reduced slaughter volume of cattle.
