Erfurt (dpa/th) – While the beer sales of the Thuringian breweries and beer warehouses within Germany are falling, they are able to sell larger and larger quantities abroad. In the first quarter of 2022, around 632,000 hectoliters of beer were sold – and thus 4,800 hectoliters less than in the same period last year, as the Thuringian State Office for Statistics announced on Thursday. This meant a decrease of 0.8 percent. However, sales only fell within Germany – by 3.4 percent.
The breweries and beer warehouses, on the other hand, were able to increase sales abroad: in the first three months of 2022, they sold 41,000 hectoliters of beer abroad, more than in any previous comparable period. The increase compared to the first quarter of 2021 is 9.7 percent. According to the statisticians, the export share of all Thuringian beer sales was 22.4 percent.
