Erfurt/Weida (dpa/th) – A new cycle and footpath is to be built between Weida and Wunschdorf in the Greiz district for around one million euros. The Thuringian Ministry of Infrastructure announced on Monday in Erfurt that the combined route was planned along the federal highway 92. It should be ready by the end of September 2023. Around 930,000 euros of federal funds will flow into the 1400 meter long section, around 80,000 euros will come from the city of Weida.
“We want to systematically improve the cycling infrastructure in the area and increase traffic safety nationwide,” said Thuringia’s Minister of Transport Susanna Karawanskij (left). The cycle path between Weida and Wunschdorf will lead to a “noticeable improvement in infrastructure” in the region.
According to your ministry, there are around 3,400 kilometers of themed routes for cyclists in Thuringia and around 10,200 kilometers of local cycle networks. As of January 1, 2022, the Thuringian cycle network along federal roads was around 360 kilometers – and thus around 24 percent of the length of the federal roads in total. Around 270 kilometers of cycle paths lead through the country along country roads.
