Weimar (dpa/th) – There was a fire in a building of the state administration office in Weimar on Tuesday. The roof structure was affected, said a police spokesman on request. The office immediately arranged for the evacuation of the house, and 60 people were brought to safety. In addition to government employees, this also includes construction workers – according to the state administration office, construction work is currently underway on the building. There were no injuries.
The fire, which was reported shortly after 12:30 p.m., has now largely been extinguished. Offices were probably not affected, as a spokeswoman for the state administration office said. The cause of the fire is not yet clear.
The house in question is next to a shopping center with an underground car park. It is part of a building complex built by the National Socialists, the so-called Gauforum. An exhibition in the house provides information about its history. A total of three buildings in Weimar belong to the state administration office. Around 800 people work there.
