Weimar (dpa/th) – Due to the gradually increasing demand for corona booster vaccinations, the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KV) Thuringia has again extended the opening hours of the central vaccination centers. Vaccinations with an appointment are now also possible on Tuesdays in the central contact points in Erfurt, Gera and Weimar, said a KV spokesman on Friday on request. The vaccination centers in Eisenach, Erfurt, Gera, Gotha, Jena and Weimar are also open on Thursdays. On Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, vaccinations are possible with and without an appointment in all 16 vaccination centers currently available. The facilities are closed on Mondays.
According to the KV, around 11,500 people had themselves injected against Covid-19 in the week before the autumn holidays alone. Of these, around 10,300 people got the second booster vaccination. Figures for this week are not yet available. According to the information, 650 vaccination appointments were booked nationwide this Saturday, experience has shown that about as many people come on Saturdays without an appointment, it said.
According to an overview by the Robert Koch Institute, almost six percent of the population in Thuringia had received a second booster vaccination by Friday, and a good half had been boosted once. 71.5 percent of the people in the Free State have the basic immunization, which usually consists of two individual vaccinations.
According to the information, the first refresher is possible from the age of 12. All adults who wish to be vaccinated can receive the second booster. If desired, all people over the age of 18 can also receive a third refresher course and not just older risk patients.
