Artern (dpa/th) – With investments of around 40 million euros, a plant for frozen pizzas was built in Artern (Kyffhäuserkreis) in northern Thuringia. The manufacturer Gustavo Gusto took over and redesigned a former factory of the large baker Aryzta. In addition to the headquarters in Geretsried, Bavaria, it is now Gustavo Gusto’s second production site, as the company announced on Monday.
“With this new plant, we will significantly advance our expansion in Germany and Europe,” explained company founder and managing director Christoph Schramm. According to the information, up to 120,000 frozen pizzas a day are currently being produced in Geretsried. The company did not want to give figures for production in Artern.
The production will be gradually increased, it said. Initially, almost 50 employees will produce in Artern. 120 new jobs are planned for the future. The state supported the settlement with subsidies amounting to around seven million euros.
The manufacturer of premium frozen pizzas has been on the market for around six years and currently employs more than 430 people. In addition to Germany, the company also delivers to Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands. According to the information, sales last year amounted to 73 million euros after around 50 million euros in 2020.
