Erfurt (dpa/th) – Because of the death of a man in Geraberg, the public prosecutor’s office has demanded a prison sentence of three years and nine months for a 51-year-old. On Thursday, the prosecution pleaded before the district court in Erfurt for bodily harm resulting in death. The accused is said to have punched a gas station customer in the face in Geraberg in January 2019. As a result, the victim fell, hit his head and died in hospital days later.
According to the indictment, the victim wanted to stand aside an employee of the gas station who felt harassed by the accused, it said. The public prosecutor’s office saw only limited culpability due to the accused’s bipolar disorder.
The defense requested a two-year suspended sentence. She referred to the past of the accused. He spent a long time in children’s homes and in the youth work center in the GDR and experienced cruel things there. He can’t bear to be touched. In addition, the accused was repentant and admitted to the punch. The verdict is expected next Tuesday.
