Erfurt (dpa/th) – A six-year-old girl died after an accident on the Autobahn 4 near Erfurt in the direction of Frankfurt am Main. As the police announced on Sunday afternoon, four other people were seriously injured in the accident. According to the police, a 61-year-old driver drove his car to the right of the roadway and crashed into a car on the shoulder that was parked there for unknown reasons.
A family from Ukraine was in the car. The 37-year-old father, the 38-year-old mother, their six-year-old daughter and their two-year-old son were immediately taken to a hospital with serious injuries. However, the six-year-old girl died there from her injuries. The 61-year-old who caused the accident escaped with minor injuries.
The A4 remained completely closed in both directions for three and a half hours. The detour was lifted around 3:00 p.m. and the freeway was reopened. According to the police, a backlog of up to eight kilometers formed “and there were massive impairments on the detour routes through Erfurt due to the heavy return traffic after the long Ascension weekend”.
