Erfurt (dpa/th) – Due to a slippery road, there was an accident on the Autobahn 71 at the Erfurt-Bindersleben junction. A van skidded in the direction of Sangerhausen, rolled over several times and came to rest on the roof on Monday morning, the police said. The 40-year-old driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle due to inappropriate speed. He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The vehicle was towed and temporary closures were in place.

According to the police, there were also other minor accidents in Thuringia without injuries or major damage. “There is a general danger of ice,” said a spokesman for the German Weather Service. Especially in the Thuringian Forest it snows or there is ice due to freezing rain. The rain will stop in the morning and the ice should decrease by noon.
