Erfurt (dpa/th) – According to Thuringia’s State Secretary for the Environment, Burkhard Vogel, owners of oil and pellet heating systems should also be relieved if they are financially overwhelmed due to high costs. “A hardship regulation is being considered,” said Vogel on Wednesday in the state parliament in Erfurt. The Prime Ministers’ Conference recently drew attention to regulations on this. “Anyone who is overwhelmed by the burden will receive support from the state,” said the State Secretary.

The CDU parliamentary group had requested a current hour on the unequal treatment of different heating systems in the federal government’s relief packages. “While the relief for users of gas heating comes much too late, everyone who heats with oil or pellets falls completely behind,” explained their parliamentary manager Andreas Bühl. Only about half of German homeowners heat with gas, 24 percent with oil. The price of wood pellets rose by 200 percent in October compared to the same month last year.
