Jützenbach/Sonneberg (dpa/th) – After heavy rain, the village of Jützenbach in Eichsfeld was flooded by a red mudslide. Due to the heavy rainfall, the earth was washed from an adjacent field onto the village street on Friday evening, as the situation center announced on Saturday. The through road had to be closed as a result. Fire brigades and volunteers worked during the night to make the road passable again. In addition, some basements are full of water.
The thunderstorm front moving through Thuringia with heavy rain also flooded the federal highway 89 near Mengersgereuth-Hämmern (Sonneberg district) with mud on Saturday morning. According to the police, the road was covered with mud for 150 meters on Saturday morning and had to be cleaned.
It was said that there was no major damage in the Free State due to the heavy rainfall after the long drought. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), heavy rain and local storms are also expected for Saturday.
